Srinivasa and the enormous Shiva Linga are simply stunning, beyond words to describe. Deities are decorated with beautiful jewelleries and silk dresses which offsets the impact of absence of natural flowers and their garlands. Yes, there aren’t any garlands or wildflowers on the idols, but you won’t notice because lavish silk decorations and exquisite jewels enhance the charm of this sacred place..

As HTCI is a Hindu Temple in Indianapolis , it was constructed using the “Sthapatya Vidya,” an ancient Indian Hindu architectural science. This is a stunning edifice that is worth viewing both inside and out.

There are very few temples United states which can mach the beauty and elegance of this temple.Entire temple is a stunning piece of artwork. The temple’s architectural grandeur will leave in awe. The intricate detailing and vibrant colors of the sculptures and carvings narrate stories of ancient traditions and beliefs of Hinduism.

The sanctum hall creates a beautiful spiritual experience. Temple has enough room for at the least 500 people inside the main temple. The temple’s architectural beauty with intricate carvings and vibrant colors is awe-inspiring.

All of the statues inside and outside of the temple are exquisite piece of art. Every part of each statutes inside, outside, on the walls, gods, roof, are hand made by individuals from India. It is said that a group of artisans traveled from India and lived in the basement of temple a couple of years to hand make each piece in the temple. Each piece has been made to perfection.

Temple tower is beautifully designed and is over 99 feet tall(30 metres). Flag mast (‘Dwaja Stambha’) is erected. ‘Utsava’ idols of all the Deities are there in a separate enclosure on North East side. This is also the place where Havans (Homas- Fire Sacrifice) are performed. A magnificent Nataraj idol graces the northern wall. The temple is truly a testament to the dedication and artistry of its creators.

You can check in at the desk and enjoy a self-guided tour with tablets and headphones provided by the facility, which takes approximately an hour to complete. They charge a $5 fee, which is quite affordable given the amount of time and information supplied. Be mindful that there will be worshippers during your visit, so please be quiet and respectful.

The tours are available on but you need to sign up for them on the provided website. Guided tours of the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana are available by appointment during the hours that the Temple is open (please note that the Temple is closed on weekday afternoons). Please email your tour request to temple at least two weeks or earlier in advance of your visit so that they arrange a volunteer to show you around. Duration of the tour will be for 1 hour. Most tours are given on weekday evenings and weekends. Topics covered are some essentials about how the spaces and symbols of the temple help the spiritual journey.

Before the establishment of HTCI, Hindu worshipers primarily frequented the Hindu Temple of Dayton or temples in Chicago for their religious services.

Visible even from the highway, the temple’s location exudes a sense of safety within its segregated area. However, within a 2-3 mile radius, the immediate vicinity might not offer the same level of security, particularly at late hours, prompting us not to recommend dining in the nearby area. Inaugurated in 2006, HTCI stands as the first Hindu Temple in Indiana, serving the spiritual needs of Central Indiana’s Hindu families while showcasing the diverse facets of Hindu faith and culture. It’s a source of immense pride for Central Indiana, a radiant gem illuminating the heart of the state.

  • Archana is done every 30 minutes. All Festivals, Pujas, Homas are performed.
  • Weekly pujas are conducted throughout the week.
  • Special pujas are conducted on New year, Pongal, Tamil New Year and Deepavali etc…
  • Note: Timings may change on Festival day

Customs of the Place-Rules

  • Photos are not allowed. You are not allowed to take pictures inside.
  • Tap water is provided for washing feet before entering the premises.
  • Dedicated space available for storing foot wears, belongings is there on the southern side.
  • Keep the shoes in designated Shoe area before entering temple.
  • Keep restrooms clean.
  • Please wear proper clothes. Avoid wearing shorts and torn jeans to temple. Even if wearing Saree, salwar and dhoti are not possible , then also try to be fully covered.

A note: You do not have to be Hindu to visit the temple. In case of doubt please ask anyone that works at the temple what the proper protocols are (taking off your shoes, etc).

There are several activities that take place year long, celebrating all the festivities of the Hindu culture. It makes you feel connected to India and a sense of belonging is always prevalent in the air. Almost all Indian festival are celebrated with enthusiasm like Durga Puja, Holi, Mahashivratri etc. Irrespective of region , all Hindu festivals and events are celebrated here. You will not feel the predominance of a single region or culture here albeit India being such diverse country after all.

The Mahashivratri celebrations are massive, and the energy in the air will make you feel like you are in India itself. The decorations and planning for the festive event are enriched with vibrant colors, beautiful flowers, and intricate designs adorn the temple inside out. The attention to detail and effort put into the decorations by temple management is easily evident on such occasions.

‘Maha kumbhabhishekam’ or consecration process was performed in 2015.

Food

There’s a nice little cafeteria offering authentic vegetarian food and sweets. HTCI Kitchen provides diversified menu to its devotees with carefully planned menu for the calendar week. They cook only Satwik food which is purely vegetarian (without onions and garlic). They try to accommodate as many combinations as possible and they are happy to serve you.

The temple serves an amazing variety of dishes, including mals and snacks and everything tastes just great. Temple’s cooks put a lot of effort into preparing the food hence you will find the flavours rich and authentic. Food is very good. Food may be little bit spicy to a western palate though for Indian origin people it is just right.

Variety of food which is served here includes, Dal-Roti, curd Rice, Chole-Chawal, tomato bath, bonds with chutney, coconut burning and rava ladoo. Masala Dosa and Tamarind Rice is hailed for its best taste. They also sell dosa/ idly batters.

There is also a Prasad stall, silver item stalls and a souvenir shop. Do not miss the ‘prasad’ when you are in the premises.
