Dwarkadhish Temple is a beautiful and sacred Hindu temple located in Sayreville, New Jersey. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, and it is a replica of the Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, India. The temple is built in the Māru-Gurjara style.

The Dwarkadhish (Bhagwan Shri Krishna) is the presiding deity of this temple. His idol of made of black marble stone is kept in the shrine. Lord Krishna as the the king of Dwaraka is called ‘Dwarkadhish‘. The statute of Lord here resembles like Lord Vishnu, Black and Majestic, the idol beholds your attention the moment you enter the temple. Apart from Shrinathji there are also the idols of Devi Yamunaji, and Shri Mahaprabhuji idols.

All major festivals are celebrated here Holi, Diwali, Navratri, Hindola, Janmashtami, everything. Indians around regularly visit here and enjoy these festivals. You will not miss India at all once you are on these events.

Temple Structure

Place is not gigantic like other temples but a decent size one with a lot of space to organise festive celebrations. Its spread in around 2.5 Acres. Nice place big hall for different type of religious (utsav) function.It has enough space for 50-70 people to sit and pray. There is also a small pond within the premises.

Ambience

Temple is a very important center for Hindus, following Vaishnav tradition. Atmosphere here is was very pleasant and congenial . People are very helpful, cheerful and you can ask for any help yo need without any hesitation. It vibes great with community feeling and this is the reason why people flock here on festivals and pray and celebrate together. Temple makes a proactive effort to bring the Indian Hindu community together and keeps on organising various events throughout the year. The temple is kind of gathering place for Hindus to chitchat and know about each other as well.

The place reminds like few temples in Gujarat and Rajasthan state of India. It gives the feel of Kalyan Raiji Mandir, Sheth Sheri Vadodara & also reminds a little of Nathdwara temple of Udaipur, India.

About the foundation and significance of this temple

The Auspicious Beginning……
On a devotion-filled afternoon of a weekend in June 1990, many Pushtimargiya Vaishnav gathered, at the home of Pankaj Sheth in Brooklyn (NY), for a Satsang in the auspicious presence of TrutiyaPithadhish Pujya Goswami 108 Shri Vrajeshkumar MaharajShri (Kankroli-Vadodara). Moved by the overflowing devotion of the gathered Vaishnavs, Indubhai Sheth, Govindbhai Parekh, Pankaj Sheth, I.R. Shah humbly requested a permission from Pujya

Maharajshri to build a Temple for Dwarkadhish Prabhu in New Jersey. With an agreeable smile, Pujya Maharajshri readily approved the request and said: “Shri Dwarkadhish Prabhu will surely fulfill your desire. I will do everything in my power to assist you in any way you wish.” He further instructed the gathering to serve humanity along with serving Shri Dwarkadhish Prabhu.

This temple has different classes going on like Bharatnatyam, tutoring for citizenship exam, etc. Its great help for new comers as well provides a great recreational space of Indians.

Location

This place is easily accessible from Route 35.It is situated diagonally opposite the major road from the school. There is also a lake across a few blocks.

Customs of the Place-Rules

  • You have to take off the shoes before entering the temple. Outside the temple you can use your shoes to roam around.
  • Please do not bring or eat any non-veg food here, especially beef. As cows are considered selfless creatures and sacred in Hinduism and are given special status.

Parking

There is ample of parking both in front and behind the structure. Parking is not an issue on normal days. However you may needs to park close to the School on festive occasions and special activities.

Festivals

There is always some sort of minor Pooja performed by temple devotees, but if you visit on a holiday like Krishna Janmashtami, Holi, or Diwali, you will be astounded by the decorations.Temple celebrates all Vaishnavs Hindu festivals like Holi, Janmashtami, Diwali and Hindola in month of Shraavan.

Holi

First day: They have bhajan night. Devotional songs are played. Everyone is traditionally dressed up. We celebrate the big fire pit in the supervision of cops.

Second day: “Day of color “ .All people gather at the temple premises . They make parking arrangements near school and at the back of the temple in a big ground. You can bring colors or purchase from there and place holi with everyone around.

Diwali celebration is exuberant too and with the arrangements you will flow like you are bursting cracker in India only. Usually the place is crowded but it’s lots of fun there. Everyone comes in ethnic Indian wears here.

Food

Previously, they did not give food because there was no canteen. However, they only started offering fresh snacks and sweets a year ago. This live food court offers excellent value for money. There is a kitchen and a permanent tent in the lot behind to serve food occasionally after the ‘Shayan darshan Aarti’.

They also have offer meal (Mahaprasad) on Sunday on Sundays evenings. Rajbhog prasad is delicious too.
